Sharing our time away

Jenny & Mel at the Nairobi airport

We have been trying to think of a way to share our experiences in Kenya and England with many different groups of people...so the obvious solution was to set up a blog. Many people blog the daily events of a trip but in our case the trip is over so this will be a recapping of what we saw, heard, experienced and continue to mull over.

As most of you are aware, the reason for our trip was to attend the A Rocha Leaders Forum in Watamu, Kenya. Leaders from all the A Rocha projects around the world, and some of the International Team and Trustees, met in Kenya to learn from one another, and with particular reference to our work in Africa to consider the link between poverty and conservation. The guest speaker was Bishop Zac Niringiye, from Kampala, Uganda, who is both a scientist and theologian, well known for his commitment to social justice. We visited several of A Rocha Kenya’s study sites (more later), and learned from their experience of involving local communities in protecting important and threatened habitats.
